1872 Letter to Amelia Monson

Adolphus Newton Pacetty

To: Mrs Minnie Pacetti
Mandarin Fla

St Augustine Florida
Feb 16th 1872

My dear wife,

I received your letter last night. I am pleased to hear from you and you feel well. I hope that you will continue so and Cassia I am glad to hear that she is so well pleased and in good health and that all were well.

I am in good health and Minnie and Nellie they are perfectly satisfied. They don't appear to miss you or Cassie much. They are with me most of the time when not at school they come and play around nearby me so as I can see them which is a great relief to me for I have someone nearby that I can love for those that are away from me.

Do not worry about me or get uneasy for us here as long as we are well. All I want is for you to take care of yourself and try and get well no matter how long you may stay away from. If you can only get well so look to your health and be independent is all I ask of you.

I wrote you a letter and sent (-----) a barrel of oysters last Tuesday but I don't know whether you got them or not as you did not mention anything in your letter. I sent my bonds off last night. It will reach my community  sometime next week.

I will give you a little piece of news (------) Foster's wife ran away from him last Tuesday and went to Jacksonville and I was told by a person that says her (-----) that the man is a house of ill fame. Poor thing. I am sorry for her. It would have been better if she had died. She would have been better off for her.

I have not received my bananas yet but will get them tomorrow from Nassau. This is no news Sophia Lane got married last night to a strange (------) or a (------). They looked well. I saw them as I went home. They had the (------) at Dona's near (------).

I have nobody to sleep with me and you tell (------) as you call her that if I catch her sleeping with my wife she might be in danger of being called out to pick strawberries. The children and all send their love to you. You will find enclosed a piece of something Caty sent me to put in the letter for you to put around somebodies pantalets or something. I forgot what time don't get any better. The weather has been very bad ever since you left. Raining and blowing everyday.

Give my love to all and kiss Cassie. Tell her that Minnie and Nellie send their love to her and Willie and Edna. And you my love what can I say write soon

Your husband
A N Pacetty
